Blue Bay – The premier destination for swimming and snorkeling in Mauritius.
A visit to Mauritius wouldn’t be complete without exploring the relatively untouched southern region of the island, renowned for its stunning scenery and rugged landscapes. While Blue Bay has long been a favorite for tourists due to its beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters, most of the south coast remains devoid of extensive beachfront development, helping to preserve its natural charm.
Recent additions include three luxury hotels built on the former sugar estate of Bel Ombre and another upscale hotel that opened in 2006 in the nearby hamlet of St. Felix. While these developments may bolster the local economy, there are concerns that they could lead to the gradual commercialization of this pristine area. Other notable attractions include the tranquil town of Mahébourg, the stunning nature reserve Île aux Aigrettes, and the striking Lion Mountain, which towers over the landscape.
